Dev Edward
Dave Edward was born in 1964 in Malaysia and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1970 at the age of six. At the tender age of eight Dave had started teaching himself by ear the songs he heard on the radio or what he heard his parents singing. At age 16 was playing the professional bar circuit and at 22 was singing, playing, managing & running his own band. He played for Split Image, Tocatta, Elroy Jeston, Tailor Maiden as well as doing the odd studio work for jingles & original bands. Dave has more recently played for all the major cruise lines around the world: Carnival, Royal Carribean, Norwegian Cruise Lines and Princess.
Wanting to do something different he travelled to Australia in 1990 and did a single over there in various resorts & hotels on the East Coast ranging from Brisbane all the way to Cairns. Coming back in 1993, he put a successful duo together with a long time friend & well known guitar player Steve Hillis. On the duo’s time off, Dave was musical director for The Legends Of Rock Show including Elvis, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison& Buddy Holly impersonator’s across Canada and the United States. He was then asked to join a very high profile country band from Calgary Alberta called The Weekend Whiskey Band & flew down to Las Vegas to join them, backing up such artists as Vince Gill at The Grizzly Rose in Denver Colorado.
They also did a tour with Australia’s Little River Band from America’s West Coast to the Mid West. Also doing concerts with Blue Rodeo, Pirates of the Mississippi, Vince Gill, Colene Carter & Brooks & Dunn when they played Grand National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. As well as headlining many years in a row at the Calgary Stampede, the band also had a C.D. "One Step Closer" which received much nation wide airplay.
Wanting to come back to Vancouver, Dave received an impeccably timed offer by Canada’s favorite party band Doug & The Slugs, whose national appeal have contributed to the 20 year longevity of the band. Their many #1 hits include Too Bad (1978), China Town Calculation, Real Enough, Who Knows (how to make love stay), Making It Work, Tomcat Prowl, Day By Day, It’s Got To Be Monday & Love Shines. Thoroughly enjoying the stature, fame and notoriety of the band, Dave decided to stick it out for a couple of years, including playing 30,000 – 60,000 seater Rock Festivals on the same billing with groups such as Eddie Money, Nazareth, Trouper, Rush, Kim Mitchel, Triumph to name a few. He quit the band when he realized the original members had exhausted the potential for more original material and producing anything new, but just wanted to ride out their 20 year old wave of success.
Dave now resides in South Florida working on different projects in his home studio, including a publishing deal with various labels on his original material. He also still works on major cruise lines as a piano bar entertainer, international resorts and private functions all over the country. Even through Dave’s repertoire is very diverse, he will always customize to any client. His strong classic rock background has always given him the edge at any every performance.
Dave has since been doing a very versatile strong single act with vocals on the grand Piano, using his versatility & outstanding talent to woo any crowd, any age, anywhere at any time. He is working on his original material that has been put on the back burner for far too long, his favorite quote,
So many worlds, So much to do,
So little done, Such things to be.
I’ll say he’s done a lot, but Dave’s a person who knows no limitations because of his integrity & his ongoing love affair for the music that started all those years ago.
